games and prizes...

...new things to draw appeared on this page as a result of the things i saw in Blackpool. I didn't draw enough or as much as i planned to as it was too damn hot. i unintentionally caught the sun on my shoulder and now it is very sore. ouch. i have added plenty of ideas to the ideas list though which is good, just need the time to be able to expand on some of these ideas and play around with them.

stamps...

...i seem to be buying a lot of stamps at the moment. i am tempted to draw a whole page of them. i think i may use the soft-cut to make a print of a stamp? i still ain't used the soft cut yet - thank you for all the suggestions. i will get round to doing something with it. there is an impending feeling of doing some serious colour work which i know i need to do. today there are plans to draw, sew, clean and this evening i am going to see Lenny Kravitz!

back in the land...

...after a little holiday, i am back. back in the office and back to the to-do list. Blackpool is changing and I really like the new promenade. photographs will be posted up shortly. it was my first family holiday with my granma, mum and sister. i also met up with Jennie who i met at uni. i was doing my degree and she was/is doing her masters. she took me to Lytham and her lovely house. i found time for naps, walking, reading and drawing. not as much as i planned or would have liked as i think i needed the rest more than i thought i did. i am going now to enjoy an evening of Michael Jackson's music. i wanted to post up a video but the official ones on YouTube are protected and plus i couldn't decide which one to share.

ideas....

...i have rewritten this bit now for the fourth and final time. the football lions keep jogging on to the sketchbook pages and trust me to start to draw them when the footie season has finished. Wimbledon starts today though, so the sports section will be very much sought after. i am just twenty four hours away from a five day drawing stretch, a bit of which i will be spending in Blackpool. i am too excited for words. the mister is making me a to-do drawing list because sometimes i need a little bit of logical straight-forward thinking help.

days off...

...i have a day off today and the usual plan is to tackle to to-do list. i completed another robotington last night and did a spot of painting. i will be doing much of the same today along with the cleaning of the flat. hopefully there will be time to cut a little soft-cut and make a print but we shall see. i feel much like a sloth today.

the return journey...

...coffee shop drawing in a cafe at Victoria train station in London. a lot of pigeons were walking around and helping themselves to bits and bobs on the cafe floor. i am yet again in a monica cleaning state of mind as thing are starting to get mis-placed in the drawing office and the living room. so before i draw and create this evening, i am going to spend a bit of time tidying up. i also found some soft-cut printing lino in the art shop and am dying to cut into it to create some small print but of what?

once upon a time...

...me and katie went to London on the megabus. what a day. it was so hot. too hot to draw. too hot to walk. too hot to do anything. i managed to do some drawing and here is some of what i drew. i quite like the megabus. i kept seeing them all round Manchester and it is a very cheap way to travel if you don't mind the few extra hours to get somewhere. in other news, my work will now be in the Turnpike Gallery until the end of July. woo!

I have watched Guys and Dolls. It was very colourful but I would have liked more singing and dancing. Next up this evening, tomorrow or Saturday evening is Slumdog Millionaire.

introducing...

...mr lion. kind of like James Bond but better. he doesn't need gadgets when he has an army of pigeons. this is another page that after a while, i felt like i was drawing half-asleep. some elements i like and some i don't. i am not going to dwell on it. the plan is to try out some typography as i have let it slide for the past month or so. i do have problems trying to unite the two - the image/character with the lettering. i have also been thinking about sending out or starting a lion themed travelling sketchbook? i have plenty to work on yet again but i feel quite ill and tired. roll on next Tuesday evening for then i shall be catching a train to Blackpool Town! all i can see and keep thinking about are Blackpool lions.

travelling page...

...late last month i did a lot of travelling. to and from Preston and to and from Huddersfield. my mind was elsewhere and very far from connecting with my imagination. my favourite drawing is the one of a lion and his dog who i saw at Preston train station one Wednesday evening after i had been to artlab. in other news, i was invited to be on the D & AD Talentpool. After many technical computer problems (nothing to do with me for a change!), my work is now up there. It feels very daunting but in a good way. today i will be drawing and working through the to-do list and it is getting smaller for once.

film recommendation for the week is Hancock which i once again borrowed from the library. this week i am watching, Slumdog Millionaire and an olde, Guys and Dolls.

pass it...

...pass it then! two lions playing football in generic red football shirts. i would like to state for the record that i don't support any team except England a little bit when it is the Euro or World Cup thing that they play. i am trying to draw lions in motion, doing activities that involves them bending their legs for example. i slowly getting back into the swing of illustration and catching up with everything after the events of last month. it has been a difficult time but i am now back to sitting in the drawing office and getting on with it all. i am slowly catching up with the diary lists and i am going to be doing some more of the catching up later this evening after i have been on a food treasure hunt.

cappuccino cups...

...seen as i work in a cafe making coffee, i thought i would have a go at drawing one as it is my favourite thing to make/do at work. some of my craft/print work is now in The Turnpike Gallery at Leigh. it is in the cabinets just before you enter the main gallery space. i was quite surprised at how well i managed to display it all. i am now on the lookout for more opportunities for me and my work. having two diaries this year has helped with my organisation. i feel like i am getting there. up above is page four of the big sketchbook. i think i drew this on the train or whilst out and about. i can not be sure as the past few weeks have felt like a blur. i am off now to have a relaxing bath and then draw/doodle before bedtime.

these pages look a tad small so to see them more clearly - please click on them and they will appear bigger, either in a new window or in the same one (i can not remember which).

a picture...

...tells a thousand words. well, a couple of hundred or so words depending on what i write. here we have a photograph of mr robotington with his girlfriend Rachel. she is a purple-y colour and they are sitting on my knitting machine. i bought it over two and half years ago at a village auction for three pounds. it has been sat in a box for a very long time so this weekend, the mister's mum and i got it out and set it up. she showed me how to cast on, knit, knit with a pattern card and cast off. the bit that i knitted is at the side of mr robotington. it knits so fast. i am awaiting some blank pattern cards so i can punch my own pattern on one and get knitting my own designs. it came with a ribber, a lace thing and some other mechanical bits but i have just kept out the main bit and a bit that allows me to knit more than two colours. i am a little bit excited.

05 June 2009

page two...

...just a basic lion page i drew will sat in front of the telly one evening. last night we watched Kung Fu Panda which i borrowed from the library. i thought it was a great film and i enjoyed it a lot. i am not feeling very well at the moment plus my nose is playing up. i have been at the cafe today and now i am going to have a short rest break before attempting owt creative. Plus, just to add incase anyone has been or expected to see my craft showcase at the Turnpike Gallery this week, due to the circumstances of last week there has been a delay in getting my work there for but it will and should be there on display next week.

04 June 2009

drinking...

...in the sunshine. this page is from Sunday before last. we went to the oyster bar and there were loads of Manchester City fans in the courtyard bit, chanting so there was plenty to draw. after one beer we left to go wander and watched the 'Hoochie Coochie Man' play his guitar on the corner of Marks and Sparks by the steps. It was a lovey day and I didn't want it to end. I like it when the sun shines. this evening I have robotington antenna's to stitch up and would like to do some drawing as I haven't really done any. I did a bit on Tuesday but not my usual amount.

03 June 2009

big page...

...here is the first page of the new sketchbook. i drew this the other weekend while i was sat with the mister and Katie after work. it was a long day so we had a couple of lemonade ciders and watched telly. i have so many things to catch up with this week and trust it to be a week when i have offered to do holiday cover overtime at the cafe. i shall scoot off and may be back tomorrow with a sketchbook page - i have five full pages in the bank (sketchbook) and five half full pages.

01 June 2009

one lion...

...just one i hear you cry? aye just one, with a couple of bird friends. this is the last page in the little square sketchbook. just as i was obsessed with drawing a page of apples, i had to draw a page of science things but i thought about it and decided that i should try drawing a 'scene'. so here is the mister at work stood next to his desk. it does look a bit like this except the real 'fluid' type things he works with are all a boring yellow colour. the only exciting colours i see in his office are the masking tape which are pink, blue and green.
time...

...there is never enough time to draw everything I want to draw. I have ideas spilling out of my head and if i am not quick enough i will forget them. i try and keep lists but it is hard to keep track of lists. some of the stickers are difficult to see because of what the outcome is when i am changing the levels in potatochop to bring out the pencil line. i dashed to Huddersfield and back mega quickly today. therefore no more drawing as its bedtime. there is time though to watch another episode of Foster's Home etc before sleep. It is work in the morning at eight am.
