hello...

...just to say I am back in Manchester now and will be updating this blog during the coming week. My illustration head is full of ideas from things I have seen and have been thinking while away in Turkey. I took plenty of photos as usual and went on a mission to try and find nemo but I was unable to snorkel correctly so the mission was aborted until next time.

handpicked...

...one of my rainclouds has been handpicked to feature in a treasury on etsy! thank you to sewsewcrafty for choosing the little grey cloud. i have been working a fair bit this week at the cafe and today i sat and sewed sixty odd raindrops while at 'ellie and lou', which is a lovely shop in the Manchester Craft and Design Centre. i had enough time to do a little doodle but will update the blog with my drawings at the weekend as am busy sorting out odds and ends for the holiday.

Thursday...

...this is a page i created on Thursday. i decided to try a little collage experiment on this page with cut outs from an old copy of vogue that was sat doing nothing on the bookshelves. the two big stripy fish and two of the allotment patches were what i did but i decided that it was getting too small and fiddley for me as my sketchbook is only tiny. i enjoyed gluing and sticking and more experiments are in the pipeline but as it is only a week away until i go on holiday, i am finding it increasingly difficult to stay focused! i will be taking my sketchbook on holiday with me as i cant wait to draw 'holidaying' lions that i will see in Turkey. i must now return to the sewing machine as i have forty eight rainclouds to sew and about 150 odd raindrops.

red chair of rescue...

...a month or so back, me, mister and mr robotington saw a red chair sitting outside the gates of our flat complex place. i asked the red chair what he was doing and he said he didn't know what was going on. he said he had tried asking the same question to the old desk chair and the bed mattress but had got no answer from either. we asked him if he wanted to come in as there was a little bit of room in the inn, well in my office and he said yes. so me and the mister showed him the way in and he soon found a comfy corner in which to live. mr robotington kept him company for the first few weeks, helping him to settle in and showed him how to help out with certain household chores. at the moment he is resting and having a mini holiday as he still cant believe he was abandoned. mr robotington said that things could have been worse and that he could have ended up in the canal or on a fire but thankfully we found him in time.

the mister took the black and white photo. aint sure as to why it is in black and white and not in colour though.

from Wednesday...

...this page is from this week on Wednesday. there was an blind old man who walked through St. Ann's square with a stereo playing opera. it created an eerie atmosphere and made me feel sad. i had to draw him as a lion. in the evening our neighbour Lu Shin came round and the three of us had a game of scrabble. i drew while we played. i never win and often come last. i won with a score of one hundred and fifty six points. oh yeah! the first word i put down was 'shit'. terrible i know but i had a 'q' and a 'u' and was waiting for the right vowels. my top scoring word was 'quid' which gave me about forty or fifty odd points! the final word i put down was 'tea'. classic.

out and about...

...aye observational drawing in Manchester again. we saw a man stood outside boots the chemist with a very long and spikey moustache on Saturday.also, i saw a lion playing the harmonica and guitar yesterday in St Ann's square. i have been drawing stripey fish and am still attempting my pattern designs but we shall see what i actually get done later on today. am fascinated by patterns at the moment but i am very getting very tired and achy when i draw - think i need a drawing board so i am not cramped over the desk.

last night...

...i went to Lo-fi DIY which is a brand new crafting club for renegade boys and tearaway girls who want to make things happen. It was held in the Manchester Craft and Design Centre but i ain't sure if it is going to be a weekly, fortnightly or a monthly meet up. Manchester Craft Mafia helped organise and set up the event. There are some more photos on flickr. I knew people were taking photos but i didn't know i would be in so many of them. i am sat in the bottom right hand corner of this photo. it was a great event and the two hours flew by! i met some great people and cant wait to go again.

the sea...

...underneath the waves of the sea, live some fish and a lion drawing mister. mister john thought he would have a go at drawing lions and his are the two in the top left corner. he even attempted to draw the back of a lion! you may have to click on the image to see it better as some of these drawings are a bit faint as i am struggling to find a nice grade of lead that scans in nice and easy. i use mechanical pencils to draw with and finding refills are a problem at the moment. i am trying out a rotring one at the moment - not one of their expensive ones mind. i quite liked drawing the fish but the earlier ones at the top of the page to me look too technical, i think the spotty and stripy ones are best. i am going on holiday at the end of the month and i am so looking forward to drawing abroad while we try to find nemo in the sea. maybe we may see a robot fish in its natural habitat?

just to add...i am not addicted to cider, though pear cider tastes nice, i do like a bottle of it, the amount of bottles drawn on these pages do not represent the amount of bottles drank.

slow like a snail...

...as per my namesake, i haven't managed to get out and about to draw due to the summer showers and i am just settling in to two part time jobs. i have been trying to draw fish but was getting all technical about it. the lions are getting there as when i have been out, i have noticed i have become more aware of my surroundings and tuned in to whats going on so there are lions in my head that i can draw out on paper. the mister is pestering me to write a story and illustrate it. i suppose i am over thinking it all just like before. i ain't sure what to write about though he looked through my sketchbook and says i have already wrote it. i don't know what sketchbook he is looking at. i must remember to keep it simple if i do write one. who says it has to have words anyway, as if i remember rightly didn't the robber bird steal them?
