last week...

...another page. i feel the lions may have reached their limit. the colours are not quite correct on this page after scanning as i am no good on potatochop. the plan is to go out and about drawing in Manchester again. maybe in different places than normal to further their character development. or maybe the next step is to fully finish off making the textile lion. thanks to the misters mum, i now have some new fabric which is more suitable to a lion's colour though i am planning to make a green lion once the pattern is all sorted out.

there are some new-ish things listed in my etsy shop if any of you fancy splashing out. any money i get is going to pay off my student overdraft and go towards a fancy new sewing machine.

drawing with Andy...

...while out with Andy on Monday, i saw some lions on skateboards and some suits in the cafe at the urbis. ones with calculators this time working out long sums. i have also notice that people in Manchester love to carry handbags and will carry them ever so funny. like resting the handle in your elbow. maybe its the fashion. the disco dancing lions were from a centre page pull out from the guardian newspaper. the office is becoming a snug working space now it is more organised. before it was pushing my anger and irritation levels through the roof. hopefully i will be re-potting the three baby cacti tomorrow. then i will, i promise i will draw all seven of them.

page eighteen...

...or thereabouts of the lion sketchbook. i think i drew some of these while i was half asleep. lion has now found a dog but i don't like drawing them so i think he needs more fish and birds, well better birds. i went out drawing with Andy yesterday which was great. we went to St. Ann's Square where there is a jazz festival going on but there were no one playing when we were there. we also went and drew at the Urbis, outside on the grass and inside on the comfy chairs. i have to add that these pages are yet to appear on the blog! i am trying to keep it to posting a page a day etc. i am one and a half pages in front of what is pictured above. in the evening we met up with the mister and went to watch 'wall-e'. it was fantastic. i loved it! go watch it. go watch it now. i still have not got very far with my to-do list and job hunting is breaking my spirit. i wish i was a colouring-in person for disney/pixar.

a little splash of colour...

...not much though. I am getting there with adding colour but need to be more adventurous. I have been carrying on with the lions and am slowly morphing them into other characters like cooks and plant growers. I really like the one holding the plant of promise. I am still working on my fabric designs. thankfully the sun is out today as I have a dinner time date with Andy and we are off drawing in Manchester.

graduation and celebration...

...there you go, a nice photo of mesen in the cap and the gown. i never meant to pull a face! the mister was taking photos when i thought he wasn't! i graduated on Friday and we celebrated over the weekend with a trip to Huddersfield. We went to barbeque's on both days and it was great to see friends, family and animals. Bonsai, the black and white dog has a great personality and he loves attention.

the lion pride...

...is growing! i bumped into loads of suit wearing lions the other day in Sam's Chop House/Bar in Manchester. there were having dinner time drinks. i also saw a fair few lions travelling whilst i was waiting for a train from Preston to Manchester and one was wearing super pink gloves! the little cacti are quick doodles of the ones that sit on my office window. i still would like to draw them a bit better but job hunting is eating into my time. the lion holding the socks is just because i like drawing socks. i also drew one with a pet dog but he was surrounded by boring writing so i haven't scanned him in but if one of my lions were to have a pet, what type of pet would it be i wonder? aye he already has birds that like playing with his curly mane but they come and go as they please.

inspiration...

...illustration does not survive on its own. it needs food to eat and so do i. my brain requires fuel in order to think and draw. therefore i have taken it upon myself to feed it tasty treats in the hope that i bright idea might work itself out my brain, through the pencil onto the bright whiteness of a sketchbook page. the other day me and the mister spotted a funny looking fruit in the supermarket. now normally i would shy away from 'new' things but i put it in the basket. it is called a dragon fruit. after we cut it open i thought we should have had a drawing competition to see what would be inside but you cant rewind time. the texture of it is like a kiwi and watermelon, all water and pips. you just scoop it out with a spoon. as of late i have turned into a baking queen. mr weasel said it was high time that i started doing some work in the kitchen in order to get the customers in so i have been learning how to cook and bake. above is a photo of my first ever batch of choc chip biscuits! they were so nice, bit chewy and a bit crunchy.
back in black...

...my attention has been else where this past week as I am currently looking for a job. I managed a day in the print room last Friday but didn't have anything planned out. the copper plate is still sat on my desk while i sort bits of my illustration work out. i did four prints of the photo etch that i was asked to do after our degree show. two of the prints were successful and two were not. I am learning more about this particular etching technique but feel i need to try out photo etching where it bites into the plate rather than it just biting the image into the photo-tec film. i am still drawing the lions but do not have a full page to show as i am trying out drawing on two pages at once. i think i may need to try a bigger sketchbook soon. I keep carrying an A4 one around with me but it just doesn't feel right yet.

staying on the theme...

...of lions. i did actually see a pirate when we were at alton towers on Friday. not only did i see one, i saw two! so technically i am a bit like penny crayon (who i didn't and don't like). meaning if i am to draw something then in a way it will come to life. i haven't seen Elvis yet...i have just realised that he has no arms in that doodle above. i am hoping to do some more drawing later once i have finished distracting myself with the mini tidy up of the office as i cant sew on a messy desk. today you will be pleased to hear that i have jumped straight into the world of illustration. it is scary, i knew this anyway but i just have to stay calm like one of them spirit level tools.

four and twenty...

...million things to do and i am too scared to do any of them. i am facing my fear and the reality of the big bad world and going to get totally stuck in. the etsy shop is slowly being stocked with lovely ladysnail goodies and i am sending my work out and about. it would be good if my work was able to grow wings of its own accord and fly out there on its own but unfortunately it doesn't do that...yet. for the moment here is a print-screen shot of fric-de-mentol's treasury which i discovered today and one of my rainclouds is included in this wonderful selection of crafted items. support the hand-made brigade! must get back to the drawing desk.
