moving day...

...today is moving day. well later on today after i have had a sleep. it is about 12.22am and we have decided to call it a day. all the boxes are piled up and there's just the kitchen and bathroom to do. you cant really pack the kitchen till last. this is also a note to say that i may/will not be able to update this blog until the internet is connected or switched on or whatever for about a week or so. in a week's time i will have photos from the artlab exhibition and some of the new ladysnail office! also maybe of some out and about in Manchester discovering.

it's gunna tip it down...

...these are segments of several different screen prints put together so you can see all the different options for the raindrops. these little crying cloud was one of them things that had been living on the 'to-do' list as a little doodle. there are some white clouds but they don't show up well on a scan at all and with regards to the previous post about doing adjustments on scans etc-well i tried to do that and it went wrong. he is quite a shy cloud but likes to eat chip butties and is quite naughty as he rains all the time and doesn't listen to mother nature when she tells him to stop. these are printed onto calico fabric and i am hoping to sew them up on sunday, similar to how the teeth were made. i know i am moving on saturday and if i have to stitch in cardboard city then let it be so. first room to get sorted out will be the new little office room though.

its raining its pouring...

...debbie may be snoring later on. a random screen print from today. it is a one of them tester ones on newsprint that works out quite well in the end. there are some white clouds underneath all the drops but they cant quite be seen on this scanned in image. maybe i should have played with the adjustments a bit. another thing to cram in and learn over the summer.

hare and the tortoise...

...this is for penny who wanted a closer look at the small prints that i have packaged and posted a picture up of yesterday. this is a hard ground and soft ground etching print that was based on an alternate story of the hare and tortoise. the tortoise wins as per normal but i cant really remember the poem and why it was different than the traditional story. its this noggin-it is fair tired and sleepy now as i have been in the print room today. yay for the print room. err...so yeah i am supposed to be packing for Manchester but that's what the hours in the night time are for. all nighter central.

little packets...

...today i spent the day fretting about the artlab group exhibition. i have put the swimming fish in and had to submit it without a frame in the end. this is due to me having to do twenty thousand three hundred and sixty one things all at once. plus my energy spurt is running out and it needs a rest. i think a print with a frame is a bit more persuading than one without. i also have been working on bits and bobs of 'left overs' in the hope of them - the gallery - sticking them -my things - on their shelves. these are today's efforts, some etching prints that are mounted on mount card with florist cellophane neatly wrapped round them. all i have to do is price them up now. (?) now they look all neat and posh, i want to keep them and play shop at home. i always dreamed of having one of them post office set up play shop things when i was little.

haemoglobin...
...this is what your haemoglobin is doing inside your body though i think some look a bit virus like. the other day i had a brainwave. my two brain cells for once started talking to each other and they came up with the idea of using other colours than black to print etching plates. so off i popped to the print-room and cracked on with some printing. these prints can be seen in the archives if you so wish from when i printed them in black. i cant believe i had never thought about using colour with these. normally its just different coloured paper. once the ball started rolling i thought, mmmm why not block out some of the print with something, a strip of newsprint and then viola, block some out with newsprint circles! so the above is what happened when my cells woke up and started connecting my spaghetti thoughts together. i am thinking i am happy enough with these to enter them into the live brief competition of which the brief is. eh? fingers crossed.

reading...

...these are some of the results of a screen-printing session i did this week. the original project was back in march sometime. i never made it to the screen-printing stage as i did hours upon hours of scraper-board work and as a result i had some kind of repetitive strain injury. i had a claw like hand, a very sore achy arm which felt like my muscles had been ripped apart and a bad neck and back. i returned to the work and made up several screen-printing options on the computer. aye i am using the computer but it will be a secret of some kind that i prefer using it now. wasn't too keen before. here are some prints, one of three options/ideas that i created which i printed onto different paper. the others were simple one layer prints and these are made up of two layers. i don't know if i like them that much as they are quite simple but then again they are effective and very striking i reckon. they would stand out if they were on a book stand and i think people would be drawn to them. i think i hinder myself at times by thinking things have to be complicated.

singing music swimming fish...
...this is today's efforts from the print room. i got up with the birds and arrived at uni for eight am to start printing in the cool morning air. aye 8am! i printed the red antenna dot layer and the dark grey outline layer though that was very difficult to do. i did test prints on scrap paper and newsprint that turned out fine but when it came to printing on my screen-prints it just didn't work out! the lovely Magda helped me in the end and i got about four or five decent prints in the end. i gave up in the end as the photo emulsion started to break down and though i could have repaired it other parts might start to break down and then it might just be best to redo the screen from scratch. that is the plan of action for friday and try and fit some other bits on that i want to do-a crying rain cloud and some more teeth things! i also went to the park and now my face is pink from the sun. someone tried to pinch jennipeg's ice cream which is a very funny story but i guess you had to be there as i am pants at explaining.
